This year contained many ups and downs for me in the reading realm. More ups than downs I’m happy to report! Today we’re focusing on the best from each category I read. These books are special. All of them are intricately crafted with intriguing plots, sympathetic characters, and atmospheric settings.
Best Contemporary: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Best Fantasy: Air Awakens: The Complete Series by Elise Kova
Best Historical: The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
Best Romance: The Liar by Nora Roberts
Best Science Fiction: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Best Suspense: Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
Three of my favorite books this year are written by POC authors, and two of these are audio book versions of the novel. My biggest regret is not listening to the audio book version of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets to the Universe. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about it. My favorite overall read from the ones listed above is Ready Player One. I adored every single aspect of the novel, especially the audio book narration! I’m hoping to enjoy some more stellar reads prior to the new year, but it’ll be hard to top the ones above.
